Supervisor Y. Calhoun

 
Dr. Yvonne Calhoun was born on December 7, 1959, to the late Joe Lee and District Missionary Gertha Rooks of Mobile, Alabama. Missionary Calhoun is a longtime worker in the Church of God In Christ. She began her Christian journey at Esau Street Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Roosevelt McCall. She was saved while still in her teens in high school in 1978.

Shortly after graduating from C.F. Vigor High School, Missionary Calhoun chose to
continue her education at Carver State Technical College, which is now part of Bishop State Community College. She graduated in 1981 with a degree in Business Administration. During
this time, Elder McCall was made Superintendent of the Bel Forest District, and her mother, Missionary Gertha Rooks, was appointed District Missionary.

Missionary Calhoun began her journey in the church working by her mother's side, learning how to carry out her duties by serving her mother. Missionary Calhoun received the baptism of the Holy Ghost in April 1978. She has served in many capacities as a District Worker, including as District Secretary first for Bel Forest District, then for JOY District, District YWCC President, and District Women's Dept. Secretary. Missionary Calhoun married the late Superintendent Johnnie Calhoun Jr. on November 17, 1984. She is the mother of two sons, Jon-Isaac and James M. Calhoun. Superintendent Calhoun was called into the ministry and St. Mark Church of God in Christ was established in 1997. Missionary Calhoun continues to serve in her local church.

After the passing of Superintendent McCall, Missionary Calhoun, and her family began serving
under the leadership of Superintendent Simon. In February 2000, after the passing of District
Missionary Gertha Rooks,  Missionary Calhoun was appointed to the position of District Missionary of JOY District. She was later appointed the role of Alabama Second Jurisdiction
Department of Woman Assistant Financial Secretary. With the encouragement of her late husband, Superintendent Johnnie Calhoun, Jr. to further her education, she attended Oakdale Bible College. In 2008, she graduated with a Doctorate degree in Religions Education. After the passing of Superintendent James Simon in 2010, Elder Johnnie Calhoun, Jr. was appointed Superintendent of JOY District. He served until he was called home in 2012.

Missionary Calhoun continued to serve. She continued her role as District Missionary under the leadership of the late Superintendent Johnnie Jackson, Sr. Faithful to her role and calling, she continued serving under the leadership of Superintendent Eddie Neal. She is currently a member of Dolie Temple COGIC under the leadership of Superintendent Emmanuel Fleming.

On the secular, day-to-day side of her life, she serves as the Supervisor of the Records Division with the Mobile County Sheriff's Office where she has served for 32 years. She received the Award of Excellent for the year of 2003-2004. She then served as the Award committee secretary from 2004-2008. May, of 2023 Missionary Calhoun received the title of Supervisor-Designate from Mother Barbara McCoo Lewis- General Supervisor (International Department of Women).
